One of the best places for someone to keep track of what is up and coming in regards to internet marketing is to browse through blogs. You can find out trends from your industry by doing something that I like to call “blog surfing”. You can see what not only your competitors are doing but what the internet trends of your target consumers are.
Since I’ve been planning my wedding, I’ll use this as a quick example of how “blog surfing” can work for you. One of the girls that I follow on my RSS feed just got married and directed me to Martha Stewart’s website (she is one of the featured bride on the November Issue). From there I followed a blog feed to a blogging community of brides and lost myself in the ideas, inspiration boards and locations. from there I could have easily gone to another 5-6 blogs. These blogs were photographers, brides to be, newlyweds, wedding planners–you learn a lot!
Just think, if you’re getting your news about upcoming marketing trends from the news–they have to find out about it somewhere. Keeping a pulse on blogs that are of your industry or spotlight new ways to market online keeps you if not one step ahead of your competition at least in line with them.
I’m spotlighting The Social Robot because of how much great information you can find on it. It’s a great place to start your blog surfing if you want to learn more about storefronts and marketing campaigns online. They sometimes even explain internet lingo that even I didn’t know about.
I like The Social Robot primarily because of they’re perfect blend of tech savvy posts and marketing campaign shout outs. They are providing you with step by step instructions on html embedding and market analysis while also talking about yahoo’s yodeling competition or “Paranormal Activities” social media viral marketing.
As someone who isn’t knowledgeable in the actually application and creation of websites and social media sites I appreciate that they are taking the time to really explain that to me.
Take a look at The Social Robot and remember to look around at other blogs in your industry. It’s a great (and free!) way to keep a pulse on the marketing trends in your industry.
